Whether you agree with his political views or not, there is no doubt that Donald Trump is a master at verbal fencing. If you want to solidify your role as a leader, it pays to learn some of the following techniques from the Trump arsenal.
The easiest and noblest way is not to be crushing others, but to be improving yourselves. – Socrates
We are all creatures of habit. It allows us to function effectively without expending lots of energy. We can go through large portions of our day on autopilot. This frees up our mind to focus on more complex tasks.
The downside of having the ability to do things on autopilot is that it can also keep us doing things that actually hurt us. It can keep us in a romantic relationship that is comfortable, but not going anywhere. It can prevent us from losing weight or even put us on the road to continuous, gradual weight gain. In other words, doing things on autopilot can put us into a rut.
What are some ruts that you might find yourself in?
- A romantic relationship that is not going anywhere.
- Chemical dependence.
- Waking up late.
- Sleeping too much or too little.
- Spending too much time playing games or other time-killing activities.
Once you are in a rut, it is easy to continue in the rut, but it takes an enormous amount of energy to get out of the rut. There are some people who waste their entire lives in a rut. They never achieve escape velocity.
And there is more bad news. If you are not constantly vigilant, it is easy to fall back into the same old habits.
So how do you get out of a rut? Here are some things that have helped me break out of ruts in the past. [Read more…] about Getting Out Of A Rut
If you happen to be a traditional man (or a traditional woman for that matter), times look pretty bleak.
If you happen to be single and you are looking to get married, you already know that you face a tough market. To often, the women are jaded or easy while the men are wimpy or slimy.
The working world has also undergone a revolution. Most white-collar jobs now consist of working in a giant cube farm. Easy network connectivity means that a 40-hour workweek is no longer the norm. Companies expect their workers to be available 24×7. We end up living to work rather than working to live.
The political situation is no better. In the US, both political parties are beholden to big money interests. Politicians give lip service to the interests of voters but dance to the tune dictated by the people and institutions whose money keeps the pols in office.
Despite all of these things, this is not a time to get discouraged. On the contrary, this is a time for boundless optimism. Here’s why:
Why should you read books? Because it is what most great men do. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Napoleon Bonaparte, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Charles de Gaulle, and John F. Kennedy were all voracious readers. That is not bad company to be in.
Books can also provide us with a shortcut to greatness.Reading the lives of great men teaches which actions lead to success and which lead to failure. [Read more…] about Books Every Man Should Read
Is Chivalry Dead? It depends on what you mean by chivalry.
When most people say chivalry, they are thinking of the behaviors of an upper class Englishman during the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Probably the best example of this is the behavior of the gentlemen on the Titanic who ensured that the lifeboats were loaded with “women and children first,” and who waited for their inevitable death dressed in their best dinner jacket.
Most of the values of Victorian chivalry are still alive today. Who can argue with being honest, honorable, patriotic, and being willing to fulfill your duty? We could use more men who emulate these qualities.
The part of Victorian chivalry that people question is the behavior of men towards women. [Read more…] about Is Chivalry Dead?
